Paroled

Mac's effusion is unchanged. Through four days of adjusting meds, up-ing doses, back and forth from IV to oral--unchanged.

So unchanged, in fact, that they are talking this morning about discharging us with the promise to stay in the area and having McKay come back for daily outpatient visits through Monday.

At this point the theory is that he may do better outside the hospital than in. Freedom, interest in play and activities, a sunnier attitude. It all goes into the mix of healing and wellness. I think it's a good theory.

It all hit home yesterday when one of the cardiologists said, "I think we're trying to treat an xray instead of a child. Look at him. His sats are good. He's walking, playing, eating, sleeping. He just needs to go to the park and kick this thing."

Post-park and play over the weekend, if all is good Monday--we're home.

This turn of events is both nerve-racking and exciting. I am DYING to love on my other boys. Remember them? Tyler and Preston have been on the party-sleepover-vacation circuit for nearly three weeks now. It's time they had their mom home to make them practice piano and clean up their room :). Hardly. I just want to snuggle, make up stories, play games, see and hear all about the pictures they took on the camera we left them, and read the journal of events Ty's been keeping (just so he doesn't forget to tell us something, he said).

From here we just need McKay to take his meds and show a stable or clearing xray every morning from now until Monday.

I know it's a lot to ask kiddo, but you're clutch. Let's do this.

I found your story quite by accident, but it has touched my heart. I have grown children and was blessed to be a new Aunt to my now 16 month old nephew, Edward. Your little boy is SO precious and has gone through so much...I send prayers your way that he will thrive this weekend. Family is always the best medicine!

What great docs - Treat the child not the X-ray. Love it. Enjoy and be not afraid!

How wonderful to have medical staff that remember to look at McKay as more than just a patient file. I'm so glad they are "springing you" for the weekend (hopefully for good). We will keep McKay in our thoughts and prayers that some hard playing will clear this thing up!

Now that I have dried my tears, may I say I stand all in amazement with the Lord and the blessings he has brought to your family. When I spoke with Matt yesterday and asked if he would be back on Monday, he said it was just a date he put down. Well, it sounds like it might not be too much after that after all! How exciting. I know how we all feel, I can only begin to imagine how you guys feel. Continued prayers and good thoughts going your way.

Thats fantastic news!!! When I read that he was "unchanged" I automatically assumed chest tube. Then I was excited to read the words.. "discharged". I hope you get outta there, enjoy your weekend and are on a plane back home soon!!

I'm with Andrea! I thought that an unchanged X ray would mean more chest tubes, but a weekend to explore and play sounds like the best prescription you could even ask for! I hope that you are out letting McKay explore Philly and that it will indeed show improvement in the next few days!

Wow! I think prayers are being answered. Your little man is FANTABULOUS! What a stud! And what an AMAZING mother he has! I don't know how you have the where-with-all to write so beautifully. I'm so happy little Mac is progressing. I hope he continues to fight this thing in his litte way so you can all move on with your lives and be reunited with the other men in your life. Continued prayers and wishes!

I took the kids downtown today to have lunch with dad and show off the new babe, and your mom stopped in to say hi. It was so great to see her. She is so beautiful, by the way. Just like her girls. So glad you get to have some play time, and I'm sure it's just what the Mac-ster needs to finish this recovery. We are praying for only good news and a trip home for all 3 of you next week!!
